MORE ABOUT BETH LAMONT:

Beth Keener Lamont is a Humanist and social justice advocate. She was married to the late Corliss Lamont (author, educator, Humanist, civil liberties champion, and poet) and is dedicated to promoting the Humanist philosophy in her husband's honor.

Some of her efforts for Humanism include:

  • Serves on the Executive Board of the Humanist Society of Metropolitan New York (the Corliss Lamont Chapter of the American Humanist Association), founded in 1974.
  • An NGO Representative at the United Nations for the AHA. Ms. Lamont serves on the NGOs' Value Caucus, formed in 1994 to raise awareness of the need to examine the values guiding human behavior at all levels.
  • A Humanist Chaplain certified by the Humanist Society of Friends, she performs Humanist wedding ceremonies.
  • President of the Half-Moon Foundation, a non-profit created to promote educational and informational activities consistent with the vision of founder Corliss Lamont.
  • Writes articles for The Humanist on subjects such as Establishing an International Criminal Court and A New Mandate for UN Peacekeeping.
  • One of the "Notable Signers" of Humanist Manifesto III.
  • Signed the Not in Our Name Statement of Conscience, which calls on the people of the U.S. to resist the policies and overall political direction that have emerged since 9/11/01, and which pose grave dangers to the people of the world.
  • Member of the Honorary International Development Committee of the Federation of World Peace and Love.
  • A strong supporter of the UN document Convention on the Rights of the Child, which has been ratified by most nations -- but not the U.S.
