Fred BakFred Baker began performing at a young age, a singer and actorin his Brooklyn school years.

At 17 he got a his break to appear in a lead on Broadway in Mary Chases 'Bernardine'. Drafted from Bway he appeared with the U.S. Army in the Korean war, then, luckily, pulled duty in Europe as an Entertainment Specialist in the early fifties. In Germany he starrred in US made for TV films alongside Don Ameche and Akim Tamiroff.

Upon his discharge from military service he returned to a string of Broadway shows as an actor and/or stage manager including the hits "Silent Night Lonely Night" with Henry Fonda, "Critic's Choice" again with Fonda, the Feydeau farce "Hotel Paradiso" with Bert Lahr & Angela Lansbury and "Rashomon" with Rod Steiger and Claire Bloom. Baker began directing the road tours of the Broadway shows he worked on and eventually directed some 70 road tours and summer theatre productions with stars such as Raymond Burr, Alexis Smith and Faye Dunaway.

The father of three, Baker took work as a producer-writer with Channel 13 WNET and honed filmmaking skills in his love of films and filmmaking. He made his first short dance film "On The Sound" which won many awards at international film fesitvals and went on to make the documentary "Lenny Bruce Without Tears" which garnered international acclaim and followed that with his first dramatic feature, the fully improvised "Events" which was picked up for distribution by Grove Press Films. Baker's interest in films surpassed his still active career as an actor-director in Theater and he went on to make and also acquire for distribution a number of very distinguished foriegn art films including the major success "Cousin Cousine", Visconti's "The Innocent", Bukowski/Fererri's "Tales of Ordinary Madness", Miller's psychological thriller "Garde A Vue", and David Lynch's "Eraserhead". He has also produced and distributed a series of the one hour classical jazz concert films "Jazz Masters" with Billie Holiday and Miles Davis and "Vintage Getz" starring the late great saxophonist Stan Getz.

Fred Baker's film company Fred Baker Film & Video Company has been active in the International Film business for the last thirty years.
